One of South Africa's most popular tourism regions, visitors to the Garden Route can enjoy a number of exciting adventure activities that are guaranteed to get your heart racing and the adrenalin pumping.The Western Cape's Garden Route is a holiday maker's ideal destination with beautiful panoramic views across the ocean, forested mountains, scenic drives, beautiful beaches, a number of highly rated restaurants, a range of accommodation options and an abundance of activities for all ages to enjoy.

Locating the Garden Route

The Garden Route is the name given to a scenic stretch of coastline that runs along South Africa's south-eastern coastline from Heidelberg all the way up to Storms River on the border of the Eastern and Western Cape. Incorporating popular towns such as Knysna, Plettenberg and Mossel Bay, the Garden Route also travels inland to include the quaint Karoo town of Oudtshoorn.

The scenic route is bordered by the Indian Ocean on one side and the magnificent Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma Mountains on the other side providing a magnificent backdrop of which to base your explorations.

An Adventure Capital

The magnificent natural surroundings of the Garden Route have been adopted by a number of extreme sport companies to create a variety of exciting adventure activities. These activities include bungy jumping, sliding through the air from the treetops, quad biking, canoeing, horse riding and much more.

Bloukrans Bungy

The BloukransBungy Bridge is the highest bungy jump in the world. Established in 1990, a bungy jump off the Bloukrans Bridge is an exhilarating, must-do activity while in the Garden Route area. Operating every day of the year, Face Adrenalin's BloukransBungy is located just under 40 kilometres (24.8 miles) outside of the popular seaside town of Plettenberg Bay off of the N2.

Tsitsikamma Canopy Tours

The Tsitsikamma Canopy Tours is a unique experience that finds one gliding and racing through the Tsitsikamma Forest along a steel cable, the longest one being 100m long. Attached to the cable by a harness, visitors traverse the forest from one platform to another, suspended up to 30 metres above the ground.

The 2.5 - 3 hour adventure takes one on a unique guided tour through the forest. As you slide from platform to platform your friendly guide teaches you more about your surroundings, providing interesting facts about the forest and its history.

Paragliding

During your time in the Garden Route head towards the town of Wilderness where an experience of a lifetime awaits. Run towards the end of a cliff and jump off. Soar above the trees and rooftops as you float along the thermals before gently landing on the soft sandy beach below.

Cloudbase Paragliding is run by the highly skilled and experienced team of Jan Minaar and Khobi Bowden. Offering tandem paragliding flights as well as flying tuition visitors choosing to embark on a flight with Cloudbase Paragliding will marvel at the experience of flying high above the clouds.
