A stay at Isango Gate will place you within a stone’s throw of Port Elizabeth’s city centre and shimmering beaches where you can swim, sunbathe and surf to your heart’s content.
One of the stand-out features of Isango Gate is the private spa. This luxury oasis is as good as it gets, with a variety of tailormade treatments offered by the team of qualified therapists. In between your pampering sessions you can also nip off to the jacuzzi or soothe those aching muscles in the steam room. If you’d like to keep up on your fitness routine the spa also incorporates a well-equipped gym.
Port Elizabeth was established back in the day to accommodate British settlers bought out to provide a buffer between the warring Cape Dutch and the Xhosa. The little port grew from there, and today it stands as just one of the main gateways into the Garden Route. If you’re interested in its full history, visit the South End Museum, stop by the City Halle and seek out No 7 Castle Hill. If you love art and all things related to Nelson Mandela, take a walk along Route 67 which consists of 67 public artworks, symbolising his 67 years of imprisonment.
It would be a crime to visit Port Elizabeth and not wiggle your toes in the sand of its glorious beaches. King's Beach is the main one ideal for swimming and sunbathing but Hobie Beach is also popular, with its rock pools, the Shark Rock Pier and the Boardwalk. Humewood is great for families but Pollock Beach is the closest to Isango Gate and a fond favourite of the local surfers due to its excellent waves.
The Eastern Cape Province offers more than enough Xhosa culture, glorious coastlines and rolling valleys to catch your eye, not to mention it also being the official birthplace of Nelson Mandela. During your stay at Isango Gate we can easily arrange a few day tours for you, or help book an extra leg of your journey into the malaria-free wildlife hotspots such as Addo Elephant, Shamwari, Lalibela Game Reserve, and Kariega Game Reserve.
