Next to the hotel is a War Memorial erected in memory of those Mossel Bay citizens who gave their lives fighting in wars. Close to the memorial is the KhoiSan cave, home of the ancient inhabitants of the region. In this area artifacts have been discovered that date back 80 000 years and more.

The arrival of Bartholomew Dias in 1488 was witnessed by the Khoisan who had inhabited this area. Above the cave is the St Blaize lighthouse, which was erected in 1864. Today it is one of only two lighthouses on the South African coastline manned 24 hours daily. From the cave a walking trail of 13,5km winds its way offering spectacular views of waves crushing against the rocky shoreline.

A natural tidal pool formed by the rocks and located in front of the hotel is a popular swimming place. This is the largest tidal pool on the South African coastline. Adjoining the tidal pool is a small aquarium where local fish can be viewed.
